In simplest terms, the Forty Hours devotion is continuous hours of prayer, in a church, before the exposed Blessed Sacrament.
The devotion has ancient beginnings, though the precise origin is not exactly known. Saints such as St. Charles Borromeo, St. Philip Neri, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Francis De Sales and St. John Neumann have all mentioned or practiced or encouraged this devotion or something analogous to it.
Below are screenshots from Facebook advertising the upcoming devotions. St. Rocco Church will have their Forty Hours beginning on Sunday, September 26. Mary Queen of Peace will start their devotion on Friday, October 8.
